That '70s Wiki

The Water Tower is a public site on FOX comedy That '70s Show and its sequel That '90s Show. It is located in Point Place, Wisconsin.

About[]

The Water Tower is an unsafe place, as when someone even moves, they fall off (most notably Kelso). In the TV special "That '70s Set Tour With David Trainer," David Trainer says that there have been many ways of falling off the Water Tower, but the most often occured one is the breaking of the railing. All teenage main male characters from the original show, except for Randy, have fallen off the Water Tower at some point in the series' run. Kelso has also claimed that he has fallen off the Water Tower in every grade (since 1st of course, when he moved to Point Place), in which Hyde says, "A record that will stand until his son goes to school".

Appearances[]

Season 1[]

The Water Tower is first seen in the eponymous episode from Season 1 where the kids are painting a marijuana leaf on it. Though Hyde says it looks like the hand giving the finger, and makes Kelso go and fix it, prompting him to fall and break his arm. Red then mentions it when he gets home, saying that some vandalizing dumbasses have painted on the water tower. He says, "And it was giving me the finger." The next time it is seen is at the end of the episode where Fez is trying to fix it to make it not look like the hand giving the finger, and saying that his American friends would be proud. However, he falls off backwards while attempting to reach a spot.

Season 3[]

Eric has had a slight discomfort for being on the water tower in the episode "Too Old To Trick-or-Treat, Too Young To Die" as he gets a rush of vertigo after he falls off his roof but catches himself just in time. In the water tower scene, he chases Donna up the ladder of the Water Tower to see what she's up to, but she was only up there for a picnic. Eric then slips after Donna pushes him, and she brings him back up. He then falls off again, this time from the guard rail, and falls into a bunch of trees.

Season 5[]

Right before their high school graduation, Hyde, Kelso, and Fez went back up the water tower to vandalize it once more. To spite Hyde, Kelso wrote "Michael + Jackie" on the water tower, which prompted Hyde to punch him, causing him to fall once more. While Hyde was going down to check on Kelso, Fez, who set out to paint his manhood on the tower, only got as far as a circle before getting arrested.

Season 6[]

After Eric called out his wedding with Donna, Hyde took her to the water tower to comfort her. During their conversation, Donna jokingly slapped Hyde on the back, which was enough to push him off the water tower.

Season 7[]

Eric's plans to spend a year off by selling Donna's engagement ring got derailed by Donna throwing the ring from the water tower. The gang helped him search for it to no avail, that is until Eric leaned on a broken rail and fell down, landing on the ring.

Season 8[]

Unfortunately, there has been an incident where someone fell off the water tower and did not live to tell the tale: Charlie Richardson.

Charlie got beer and invited the gang to the water tower, saying "It's finally nice to fell like being a part of something." Then, when he leaned on a rail, it broke and sent him falling, screaming, while Fez, instead of grabbing Charlie, grabbed the beer out of his hands. Donna and Kelso both looked at him as Donna noted "Wow, that was a really awkward landing. I hope he's okay." However, as revealed by Kitty later, the water tower has since been named the "Charlie Richardson Memorial Water Tower". The kids never acknowledge that name though.

Some time after Charlie's death, Kelso, Donna and Fez came to the water tower and discussed how dangerous it turned out to be. While Kelso mused on how everybody is, quote, "totally vincible to these kinds of things," he leaned on the rail again, which broke. Kelso landed on the ground not worse for wear and shouted "Screw that! I'm invincible!"

In the finale, Fez and Hyde met the returning Kelso on the water tower and tricked him into jumping off it one last time. Later, to mark his new relationship with Jackie, Fez tried to correct "Michael + Jackie" to "Fez + Jackie", only to accidentally paint over the wrong name, making it "Michael + Fez". He also said that he wanted his first kiss to be "Up here, but I mean, look at it, this place is a dump."

That '90s Show[]

Fifteen years later, the water tower is still standing, with all the old tags still visible (with "Michael + Fez" somehow reverted to "Michael + Jackie"). Leia Forman finished her first summer in Point Place by painting "Leia & Gwen'95" on it with Gwen Runck. By the next year, the railing on the tower, which previously broke whenever someone leaned too hard on it, had been fixed/reinforced, enough for both Nate and Jay to sit on it at the same time, but broke again later that summer, causing Jay to fall off.
