- This episode marks the first appearance of Mitch, an arch-nemesis of Eric's who will develop a perverted infatuation with Donna during the following season.
- The B-plot of the episode serves to explain the departure of Tommy Chong as Leo. In real life, Tommy Chong got arrested for selling glass pipes online.
- This is the second time where the show takes several episodes to explain or even acknowledge the absence of a former cast member. The first time was season 4 which stopped featuring or crediting Tanya Roberts since the premiere, but only used Midge's absence as a plot point from episode 6 onwards.
