"Lip Smackers" is the third episode of the first season of That '90s Show.

Synopsis[]

After Sherri dishes about her date, Kitty steps in to help her break things off with her beau. A never-been-kissed Leia decides it's time to pucker up.

Plot[]

Red and Kitty wonder if Sherri broke up with her boyfriend, saying that he has salons and mentioning his commercials. Kitty realizes he is dating Fez, who Red says they know.

Nik and Nate make out as Leia walks down to the basement. Jay tells Leia they do not care, and as Gwen mentions kissing, Gwen and Ozzie realize that Leia had not kissed anyone yet. Leia says that she wants to kiss someone, so Gwen says that they need to get her to kiss someone and proposes they go the mall, which Leia agrees to. Ozzie says that he has kissed a boy named Etienne, who Leia says is his fake Canadian boyfriend.

In her kitchen, Kitty explains that Fez was one of Eric's friends, who started out as an exchange student, but never left. When Kitty tries to explain where Fez is from, the kettle sounds and Sherri tells her that she could not break up with him, so Kitty says that maybe she should take a chance until Sherri reminds her that she had told her to focus on herself.

In order to help Sherri, Kitty goes to Fez's salon, where he tells her that he is very happy with his life. Kitty tries to talk with him about Sherri, but Fez says that he had not felt that way about a girl since Jackie, so Kitty asks him to tell her everything. Fez recalls how he had caught Jackie on the phone with Michael one night while they were in Jamaica and she then left him. Fez says that Sherri is his future, feeling great when he is with her. Swept up by how passionately Fez describes how Sherri makes him feel, Kitty starts to understand what he is saying and tells him to never let Sherri go.

At the mall, Red tells Leia, Gwen, and Ozzie that he had driven them so they could get out of his house. Red tells them that he would stay in a massage chair reading his paper, and afterwards one of the store's salesmen shows up to sell him that chair. As Red complains, the vendor turns on the massage function on the chair, so Red ends up buying it immediately.

Gwen comforts Leia, as Ozzie keeps on saying he has a Canadian boyfriend. Leia tries flirting with different boys to no avail. Eventually, a mall cop tells her she needs to leave. As she tells Gwen they need to go, they find her making out with a boy herself.

Nik tells Nate that he might be having a reaction to one of her lip smackers, as his lips are swollen. Gwen describes it as looking like "a monkey's ass", so Nik takes Nate to a hospital. Leia asks what is wrong with her, as Ozzie mentions she is desperate. Gwen suggests she kiss Jay, as he is always flirting with her and he is a Kelso, which means he is a "man-whore".

Kitty is not sure about the massage chair. Since Red is in a good mood, Kitty asks if he is okay. Sherri bursts in saying Fez had told her that he loves her. Kitty apologizes, saying that Fez is too sweet, so she had not been able to say no to him. They realize they need Red, who had been in a very good mood since he got the chair. As soon as Kitty unplugs the chair, Red becomes angry again.

Jay meets Leia alone, as the latter makes a lame excuse as to why they are alone. Leia points out how nice the sky looks and mentions it is romantic, but Jay is distracted. Leia makes a kissing face, but Jay says that he would not kiss her because she is cute, smart, and interesting, not wanting her to be meaningless and wants to kiss her if it is special.

Fez shows up at Red's house, where Red tells Fez that it is over. Fez thinks he is talking about being near death, but Red clarifies that he means it is over between him and Sherri, which Fez cannot believe. Fez tells Red he is sad, but Red does not care, telling him he is weird, but one day he would find someone who would love him back. As soon as Red mentions that Sherri has kids and is in her forties, Fez says he missed a bullet with her.

At the mall, Leia tells Gwen, Sherri, and Ozzie that even though things did not work out the way she wanted them to, she is not worried and is excited for what is next. Sherri says that she feels the same way, as Ozzie asks if she would wait around for Jay, which Leia says she would not do because he had told her she was cute, smart, and interesting which Gwen had been telling her all along. She says she is now more confident, takes some mints and kisses the boy she had wanted to kiss before.

Later, Ozzie speaks to his boyfriend Etienne, who tells him none of his friends think he is real, which Ozzie says happens to him as well.

Trivia[]

  • The slow walk with Ozzie, Leia, and Gwen, with Sherri trying to join in only for Gwen to push her off screen again, continues the tradition from the original show of scenes in slow motion that don't stop even when something goes wrong:
    • In "Going to California", when Eric and Donna run towards each other in slow motion, Kelso misreads the situation and tries to race Donna, only for her to push him aside and make him fall without ever stopping.
    • In "Christmas", when Kelso, Eric, Hyde, and Fez arrive at the school dance and walk in with all eyes on them in slow motion, Fez walks into a Christmas tree, before immediately righting himself.
