"Hyde – Gee, Fez, you didn't give Forman a chance to pin it on me.
Eric – I didn't pin anything on you.
Hyde – No? Well, when Mrs. Hodgkiss was yelling at me in front of the whole class, you didn't exactly step up and take responsibility. What were you thinking?
Eric- Hmm. I guess I was thinking, "I'm seven!"

Mrs. Hodgkiss is a minor character who was mentioned in the episode Halloween. She is a former teacher at Old Maine where the gang had attended as children until it burned down.

Character[]

Not much is known of Mrs. Hodgkiss’s life except that when she was an adult she became a teacher. At one point in her life she got a teaching job at the grammar school Old Maine where she would teach to her students, among her students were Eric Forman, Donna Pinciotti, Steven Hyde, Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart when they were children.

One day while her students were making their projects, her student Christine DelBueno, whose project was a shoebox diorama of the four food groups, was destroyed with everyone, including Christine and herself believed Hyde was the perpetrator. She, Christine and everyone in the class was unaware that it was actually Eric who was responsible for destroying the diorama. Hodgkiss was still teaching until the school one day burned down due to arson, with everyone believing Hyde was behind the arson but Hyde stated he was out of town that week.

Mrs. Hodgkiss was briefly mentioned during an argument between Hyde and Eric after Eric reveals to the others that he was responsible for destroying Christine DelBueno’s diorama and blamed it on Hyde. When Eric tried to defend himself for what he did Hyde pointed out by remembering that when Mrs. Hodgkiss was yelling at him in front of the whole class he states now that because of Eric’s cowardice he didn’t step up and took responsibility and didn’t get Hyde out of the blame. When an upset Hyde asks Eric of what he was thinking Eric defends himself by stating that he was seven.

Trivia[]

  • It was never established what kind of a subject Hodgkiss had teached when she worked at Old Maine but given the fact that Eric and the gang were in second grade when Christine’s diorama was destroyed Hodgkiss was most likely a second grade teacher.
  • It is unknown what happened to Hodgkiss after Old Maine was burned down or if she even got a teaching job at either another elementary school or in Point Place High School.
