Eric learns that his parents have spent all of his college savings, so he must find a way to finance the next four years.

- The title of the episode “2000 Light Years From Home” refers to Eric in a way of trying to explore many opportunities to find a way to get money for college and with Kelso trying to find ways to break up with Angie. Additionally the title of the episode is also a reference to the English rock band The Rolling Stones’ song “2000 Light Years From Home”.

- Angie is promoted to a new job at a corporate office in Milwaukee and since she will leaving Angie breaks up with Kelso.
- This is the first time that it is mentioned that Eric has no money for college due to his father spending it on the Muffler shop.

- After meeting with Mr. Bray and signing up to a program that lets people teach impoverished areas for a year and will pay for college, Eric announces that he will be leaving for Africa to teach there.
